Developing Creativity In The Early Years

This course will encourage participants to examine their own personal perspectives regarding the definition of creativity. Participants will further consider and reflect on the theoretical foundations relating to creativity. They will examine and reflect on the role of music, movement, drama, dance, role play and visual art as experimental learning for children developing creatively. Participants will plan and reflect upon a series of creative activities delivered to young children and reflect on the role of the adult in developing the creativity of young children.

 

 

The course aims to develop knowledge and understanding:

Of the concept of creativity and its influence on the development of creative learning within the child and the further enhancement of the professional skills of the adult.

 

 

 

On completion of this course, participants will be able to: 

Discuss the concept of creativity and its relationship to the development of the young child;

Examine and engage in personal reflection on the definition / criteria of creativity;

Discuss the theoretical perspectives pertaining to the concept of creativity;

Engage in reflection of creative activities and their specific application to the development of the young child;

ngage in planning, supporting and reflecting upon creative learning experiences for the young child;

Reflect on the role of the adult in planning for, participating in, and evaluating creative experiences for the child.

During the study of this course, participants will experience a variety of teaching and learning methods and techniques.  They will gain knowledge and understanding through lectures, workshops, peer group discussions and debates, and independent study time.

 

Topics covered will include: 

Challenging personal understanding and perspectives of creativity; 

Defining creativity and its application to the early years;

Examining the role of the adult in creative experiential learning; 

Exploring music as a form of creative experiences for the young child;

Investigating movement and creative dance experiences and their relationship to creative learning for the young child;

Exploring role play and drama as forms of developing creative expression for the young child; 

Exploring the range of visual arts and their application to young children’s creative learning experiences.

For any cancellation 48 hours or less before the date you booked, your payment will not be refunded.
